Niina marni!

We are Brad and Chloe, founders and operators of Moonrise Seaweed Co. - a family business with a mission to regeneratively farm native seaweeds. We live and work on beautiful Kaurna Sea Country on the Fleurieu Peninsula of South Australia.

With support from Sustainable Table, World Widlife Fund Australia and our lovely community of salty legends, we are innovating a new model of seaweed farming we call “saltwater agroecology” - specific to local ecologies and centred on First Nations knowledge systems.

We are committed to building pathways for First Nations and other small operators into the emerging Australian seaweed industry and sharing the knowledge we uncover. We believe the future of seaweed is inclusive, community-scaled, culturally informed and evidence-based.

I’m a marine biologist and have also worked as an oysterwoman, yoga teacher and snorkel guide. Like many settler Australians, I’m the daughter and granddaughter of immigrants - I’m of Dutch, Scottish, Irish and Greek heritage. I love being outside, swimming in cold water, learning new things, tiny dogs, and adventuring with Brad and our 5 year old best bud.

I'm an artist, kayak guide, mechanic, and fisherman. I'm also a proud Narungga First Nations man. My mob on my Dad's side is the Chester family. On my Mum's side I'm from the Colley and Ball convict and settler migrant families. I made a pact with Chloe that we will spend our 30s working on or in the ocean, and the result is that I’m a seaweed fanatic.
